Thank you for your quick reply. Can you explain to me what you mean when you say Windows XP does not burn DVDs natively? Does that mean it is software dependant to do that function?
Exactly. There is no software built into Windows XP that burns DVDs (except for the somewhat obscure case of DVD-RAM disks).
Usually, when you buy a computer with a DVD writer, the computer manufacturer usually will bundle some software, typically a 'lite' version of some media application, that can play and write DVDs. The same thing is often true if you buy a DVD writer in a retail box (rather than a 'bare' drive, which is more typical for purchases from the usual Internet vendors).
I assume from your question that you reinstalled Windows using a 'real' Windows XP CD rather than a 'restore' CD provided by your computer manufacturer. There are pros and cons to each method; the bad part about using a genuine Windows XP CD to do a clean install is that you then have to reload everything other than the operating system (e.g., drivers, applications, and data). If you use a 'restore' CD (or restore from a hidden hard drive partition), the computer will be in its fresh-from-the-factory state, including all bundled software (but none of your data or later-installed applications).
